Top Considerations to Make When Remodeling a Laundry Room

Blog

Do you dread laundry day because there is no space to sort and fold your laundry? If so, it may be time to remodel your laundry room. Remodeling can help you maximize the available space while making the room look stylish and modern. However, before undertaking the project, there are top considerations that you should make.

Choice of appliances

The most common laundry room appliances are the washer and dryer. If you are planning to replace the old appliances with new ones, you need to consider the following factors.

  • Available space: Your appliances should not occupy most of the space in your laundry room. If your laundry room is small, consider buying smaller machines. Alternatively, you can purchase a stacking washer or dryer combo or a two-in-one unit. This will leave you with adequate space for a laundry table and other equipment.
  • Energy and water efficiency: Washers and dryers contribute a significant amount to the monthly energy bills on your home. If your older models are not energy efficient, consider replacing them with sustainable ones which have a high energy efficiency rating and use less water. These appliances can reduce energy consumption significantly.
  • Washer features and design: When choosing a washing machine, you should consider one with features that will improve energy efficiency. Choose a front-load washing machine as it uses less water compared to a top-load washer. Also, a washing machine with load sensing technology can detect the amount of load and adjust water accordingly to suit the load size.

Storage space

How much storage space do you need in the laundry room? If you are using the room for laundry only, you will only need space for storing soaps, detergents, fabric softeners, ironing board, and the like. However, if you will be using it for other storage, you will need more space. Consider installing cabinets for storing laundry baskets and other equipment. If there is little room on the floor, make maximum use of the available wall space.

Working space

You will need space to sort and fold your laundry. If you have a big laundry room, you can easily fit a workbench and leave enough room to do the laundry. However, if the space is inadequate, you can utilize the space on top of the washer and dryer for sorting and folding.

Remodeling your laundry room is a chance to create an organized and functional space with more efficient appliances. If you need professional help, you can contact a designer to help find the most suitable solution for your home.
